I assisted the author with the cover design for this book, and had the opportunity to provide feedback on the original draft. I have been grateful ever since to have such a clear resource for seekers who have doubts but who honestly want to know if there is a God and if the Bible describes that true God. In teaching Christianity to prisoners, I felt that something was needed in the curriculum ahead of the "Christian Basics" materials that we were teaching, because not all prisoners were raised from childhood with familiarity concerning God and Christ. In the 2015 Prison Fellowship "Transformational Ministry" program at a prison in Colorado, we gave "Truth Matters" a try to fill in that void. Most of the students in the program went out of their way to praise this book as either an eye-opener or as a means to solidify what they believed. At graduation, however, one of the students informed us that "Truth Matters" was key in taking him from "a practicing pagan" to a believer in the One True God and in Jesus. Another student said that the book has enabled him to teach others much more effectively, now armed with so much material to explain why things are the way they are, and how we fit into the plans of an all-powerful and all-loving God. I recommend this book for any situation where seekers and honest doubters need all of the facts before them, so that they can believe and then begin the long journey trying to wrestle with their unbelief.Product details

Tom Gender has produced the most comprehensive study of reality that I have ever read. Truth Matters is a world class study answering questions about where the universe came from, what is wrong with the world, what happens after we die, can we be sure that God exists, and how we should live and respond to the evidence.
You could search for years and never find the depth of research that went into this amazing piece of work. Once you have read this masterpiece, you will likely be more knowledgeable about the nature of reality than 99% of the people in the world. And the beauty of this study, is that it is written for the average person. But don't be surprised if it turns you into an expert, when the truth about life really matters!

There are several good books out in the market that serve the “introduction to apologetics” category very well; books like "I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist" (Turek and Geisler) or "On Guard" (Craig) or "Christian Apologetics" (Groothuis) or "Understanding the Faith" (Myers) to name just a few. So why does the world (and more importantly, your library) need yet another one? For me, one of the highlights of Gender’s book is the last few chapters. It is the first introductory text of this kind that I have encountered that asks for the reader to make a decision based on the information that they have read (except for maybe J. Warner Wallace’s "Cold-Case Christianity"). After the apostle Paul engaged in dialog with the Athenians on Mars Hill, he did the same. He asked them to make a decision based on the case he made to follow Christ; Gender makes a similar plea. If you are not ready to commit, then he asks that the reader keep genuinely seeking for the truth. This is a wonderful way to end such a well written book, and well written it is.
Gender’s writing style is very clear and structured very well while avoiding overburdening the reader in technical language. It is all very understandable with good illustrations to ease apprehension of difficult concepts. In this book, Gender intends to “distill the handful of really significant questions that should form the foundation of everything else we believe….to concentrate our attention on a few big important ideas - the ones worth believing….to be intentional about forming our worldview based on finding accurate and consistent answers to these most important questions of life.” And what are these questions?
1. Where did everything come from?
2. What is wrong with the world?
3. What happens after we die?
4. Can we be sure?
5. How should we live?
This forms the general outline and structure of the book that Gender follows all the way through; each section and subsequent chapters building on the last. In this way he consistently builds a cumulative case for his claim that God exists, is knowable, is active, and wants to have a personal relationship with you.
Overall, this is a fantastic book and I would highly recommend adding it to your library (if you have one), or using this as the starting place for your apologetics library (if you don’t have one). Now that I have finished reading it, I plan on buying an extra copy for my church’s library. Ultimately, apologetics is simply a tool, a method, for clearing the intellectual obstacles on the way to leading an individual to the foot of the cross. Gender does this marvelously and his book helps you to do the same.
I really appreciated this book from Tom. It is well thought out, reads well and logically. One thing that I think important after reading a book like this is; what did I do with it after I finished reading it? I purchased more copies and gave the book to friends to read. Truth does matter and Tom brilliantly brings this into focus.
The Author's search for truth compels the reader to question even long held beliefs to test their veracity. Excellent read for the responsible thinker.
The author says, "A person's world view describes not only what they believe, but how they will act." The book brings together compelling scientific, historical and archeological facts in support of the Christian worldview. Tom Gender, the author, goes into some extremely interesting details regarding human DNA and the vastness of the universe. He further builds on the reliability of the Bible by talking about historical and archeological information before talking about what he says are life's five most important questions.
